Farthingstone Church

The poppy head pews are beautifully carved and are by craftsmen who were well endowed with a sense of humour and musical minds. We can see a winged demon playing a drum, as a roguish kitten peeps over his shoulder amongst many wild and wonderfull scenes, all of which are different.

It is said that the carver objected to the new fangled pipe organ replacing the traditional village band and so ensured instruments were perpetually in the church as a reminder of the good old days. His displeasure is shown with the Rector who had introduced such unwanted change. His Stall is faced by a brood of vipers!
