Pentecost

Pentecost is the festival celebrating the gift of the Holy Spirit to the disciples ten days after Jesus Ascension to heaven at the end of his earthly Ministry.

It is the fulfilment of his departing promise to send the Holy Spirit that would never leave believers. Traditionally the event has therfore been associated as birth of the Christian Church as it was from this moment that the 12 disciples changed from being a group of scared and confused men, to ne the Apostles, proclaiming the Good News of Jesus to all they met.

The colour red is associated with the festival because the disciples was said to to have been ablaze like flames with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Traditionally the priest wears red vestments on this day.
